This program is for participants on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living funds. Rhi combines their social work credentials with over 30 years of martial arts experience.
The aim of this program is to develop functional capacity through learning skills that improve gross and fine motor skills, balance, co-ordination, emotional regulation and self-confidence.
This program is taught one on one, with the option for no physical contact and in conjunction with conversation therapy.
Sessions are informed by therapeutic modalities for those who have experienced trauma, have a disability and/or have mental health considerations. Trauma therapy research highlights the therapeutic value of martial arts (Van der Kolk, 2014).
People diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or ADHD can benefit from the structure of this program which assists in executive functioning and neuroplasticity of the brain, using working memory.
Body movement techniques are practiced in sequences, that can support the autonomic nervous system to self-regulate.
Sessions are available for children and adults 12 years and above. The sessions are specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of the person, to cater for physical, intellectual and psychosocial barriers.
All bodies and abilities are supported, embraced and welcomed.
